You might be surprised when you take a look at Tasha Cobbs Leonard’s tracklist for her upcoming album titled ‘Heart. Passion. Pursuit.’
Cobbs has revealed that her track called “I’m Getting Ready” features hip-hop superstar Nicki Minaj.
According to AllHipHop.com, this collaboration has been in the works for months. Cobbs and Nicki seem to be developing a strong friendship. We now have a Nicki Minaj 16 on a Gospel song. The news is posted on Nicki Minaj’s official website. BlackChristianNews.com and TheUndefeated.com have also reported on the Minaj/Cobbs collab.
Tasha Cobbs Leonard’s new project is dropping on August 25th.
As the Christian Hip-Hop community continues to grow, we are seeing an influx of mainstream artists exploring spiritual themes on their songs (Chance The Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West). Forbes recently wrote about Hip-Hop/R&B being the dominant genre in the U.S. for the first time. The current climate of pop culture indicates that we need urban missionaries more than ever.
All of those could have been predicted, but there is one standout piece of information embedded in the document that is somewhat shocking. For the first time since Nielsen started measuring music consumption in the United States, rock is no longer the top genre in terms of overall consumption. Instead, the combined genre of R&B and hip-hop has taken the crown, and while the two styles are fairly close to one another when it comes to percentages, the latter has pulled ahead, and it seems like it will continue to distance itself from the competition in the coming months and years. – Forbes
