JTH: For those that haven’t read or seen your book, could you tell us where the idea for the book originated?

Bobbito: 1960 to 1987 is the dark ages of sneaker culture in that unless you lived it, most people have no clue.  I wanted to document the period so anyone could understand the beginnings of what we see today.

JTH: What are your thoughts on today’s sneaker culture and sneaker heads?

Bobbito: Best era ever.  People have more choices for brands, places to shop, colors for models, everything.

JTH: If I told you I got you on any three original pairs of kicks from the book, which would you add to your quiver?

Bobbito: I have enough sneakers, ha ha!  I’d suggest you send them to one of the non-profits I regularly donate to:

https://www.samaritansfeet.org/

https://www.hoopsafrica.org/

JTH: What are a couple of big things that you want people to take away from reading your book?

Bobbito: Let the sneakers you wear say something about your individuality (smiles).

If you are a sneaker head, I suggest you check out Bobbito’s book as well.  You can visit his site at: https://www.koolboblove.com.  You can also check out his New York City street ball documentary, Doin’ It In The Park, or check my article on the film here: https://www.jamthehype.com/doin-doin-well/.  You can also check Bob out on Mondays from 2pm to 4pm on East Village Radio (https://www.eastvillageradio.com/shows/thebobbitogarciaradioshow/).
