JTH: Tell us more about your current music and your upcoming Through It All (TIA) mixtape. What message do you want people to come away with?
D: Finally, I’m going to be dropping my first mixtape project entitled TIA which stands for Through It All on 25th December (Christmas Day!), followed by an album in 2014. It’s going to be a dope project. Since I gave my life to Christ, I’ve been through so many trials and tribulations, setbacks, and disappointments.
I now have a story to share with everyone on some of the personal things I’ve been through as a Christian and how God helped me through and still pulling me through each day. There’s some deep stuff I’ll be talking about which I believe will touch many people.
Although the music is going to be pumping and at its best, I want people to listen to this project and say, “I went through or I’m going through the same thing, and this guy has brought the solution which is in Christ only.” I want people to re-gain hope if they’ve lost it and to realize that going through difficult times actually builds up character, endurance, and faith.
JTH: What advice would you give from your own experience to young people wanting to get into rapping about the Gospel?
D: The first thing I would say is find your own purpose, find your own lane, and run in it. Don’t compare yourself to anybody and keep building yourself up. Don’t rush into anything; take your time and build. Release good quality music and don’t be afraid to explore music by being creative. Creativity is a gift from God. Final thing I would say is how I got my breakthrough was through prayer, fasting, and having the right people in my life to give me advice. God did the rest.
