Label: Website: www.myspace.com/twylamusic www.myspace.com/twyse Bio/Notes: There isn’t much Hip-hop music that lends itself to creating an atmosphere of worship. You can probably count on one hand the number of Gospel Hip-hop songs that could be played during a Sunday morning worship service without breaking the flow of adoration towards God. Focusing instead on teaching, correcting, rebuking, exhorting and the like, the ministry of hip-hop doesn’t usually lend itself to creating an atmosphere of praise. If you think that’s a bit far reaching, take a second and try to think of a few songs that do. Enter “iLLSONG vol. 1.” No, not Hillsong…iLLSONG. A fusion of Hip-hop and Contemporary worship, featuring Gospel rapper TWyse and Christian hip-hop producerT-WYLA, “iLLSONG vol. 1” is a project born out of prayer, honest fellowship, and the mutual desire of two brothers to see those that love God and have an affinity for hip-hop go on to deeper levels of worship. The revamped songs are taken from the entire Hillsong London’s 2nd album, “Jesus Is.”
The remix of the ultra popular song “How Great Is Our God,” which is featured on “Jesus Is” is the first fruit of this dynamic offering in which TWyse, with great vulnerability, expresses his great love and adoration for this great God of ours. TWyse and T-Wyla’s version of the song even made its way to Chris Tomlin, the original writer of the song, who loved it and gave it his bonafide stamp of approval, giving the duo kudos for maintaining the integrity of the song.
“We wanted to create Hip-hop music that allows you to be vulnerable before God in the same way you would if you were in the sanctuary during a worship service. In this project we are talking to God. We wanted to give Him an offering that reflects our hearts desires.” says T-Wyla, who’s recent production is featured on the Richie Righteous album, R.I.C.H. Eric Cross’s “The Signature” as well as tracks on Lavoisier’s upcoming sophomore album. In a day when much of Christian Hip-hop is marginalized through personality centered music and doctrinal arguments in mp3 format, iLLSONGS vol. 1 is sure to bring some much-needed change and perspective back to the genre. How great is our God, indeed.
