#4. NFL Concussion Settlement
After years of physical, mental, and emotional abuse, former NFL players were victorious in their suit against the NFL over concussion-related brain injuries. A federal judge announced an agreement between the league and the former players on August 29, 2013. The league agreed to a $765 million settlement, which included compensation for victims, payment for medical exams, and to help further research on concussion-related illnesses and injuries. The settlement also helped the NFL avoid potentially having a Pandora’s box of information opened as to whether or not the league knew about the history of the injuries and subsequently hid the information.
