As 2013 draws to a close, sports fans everywhere have most certainly begun to reflect on the past year and the memorable moments it has produced. We have witnessed the mundane and the miraculous, the triumphant and the tragic, and through it all we are reminded exactly why sports captivate us in the first place. #13. Louisville Men’s Basketball Capturing the 2013 NCAA Basketball Title
Rick Pitino and his Louisville Cardinals Men’s Basketball team conquered March Madness and rode off victoriously into the championship sunset, defeating the Michigan Wolverines 82-76. The game itself was outstanding but the back-story surrounding the Cardinals title run was what captivated the nation. Louisville guard Kevin Ware suffered a gruesome broken leg against Duke in the Elite Eight and his Cardinal teammates used the unfortunate injury as a rallying point. Louisville then proceeded to take care of business and dedicate the title to the injured teammate. As a side note, Rick Pitino also lost a bet with his players and had to get a tattoo after the win.
