St. Louis GRAMMY Award-winning Hip-Hop artist Thi’sl and two-time PGA Masters Champion Bubba Watson partner together to provide Griffith Elementary with $25,000 to repair vandalism and replace stolen technology this Saturday, December 13 in Thi’sl’s Hope for the City Concert.
After Prayer Under the Arch at 2 p.m., Billboard’s #1 gospel artist, Lecrae will host the concert featuring Derek Minor, Propaganda, St. Louis’ own J.R., Flame, and Thi’sl himself at 7 p.m. at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church (5515 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive), where Michael Brown’s funeral was held.
“I am completely blown away and speechless. Thank you to Thi’sl for his heart for St. Louis and generosity. This gift will have such a positive impact on Griffith Elementary students,” Principal Sean Joyce said.
Known for his philanthropy around the city, Thi’sl hosts annual block parties for inner-city youth as MTV.com Motivation music video shows, Christmas toy giveaways, and recently hosted a community open forum to register voters, engage St. Louis citizens in discussion, and impact his community.
“When I heard about the vandalism at Griffith Elementary, I knew I had to do something about it,” Thi’sl said. “I called Principal Joyce, and he seemed so disheartened and skeptical that they could replace equipment. While traveling and recording with my buddy Bubba he overheard me talking about my plans to help the school. He was eager to help provide funds through Bubba Watson Foundation.”
Thi’sl and Bubba have a longstanding friendship. Each year, Thi’sl participates in Bubba’s Bash, a night of music and faith to raise funds for the Bubba Watson Foundation. Bubba and his wife, Angie are committed Christians who share a passion for philanthropy and dedicate as much time as possible to giving back.
“I’m just glad to serve my city,” Thi’sl said.
