St. Louis, Missouri-based rapper Thi’sl is known for being active in his community and spreading positive vibes.
Thi’sl recently released a video that featured unseen footage of his 2014 Back To School Block Party. He is currently gearing up for the 2015 community event. The Motivation-emcee spoke on why he gives back to St. Louis in particular.
“I do this in this community particularly because this is where I grew up at,” Thi’sl said. “I grew up over here doing all kind of crazy stuff. When I came out the street and my life started changing and making more sense to me and I started seeing different things about the rest of the world and how I could live different, I wanted to be a person that was building up my community versus tearing my community down. That’s why I come back to my hood and do this stuff in general because I want the kids that grew up around me, the people who grew up seeing me doing all kind of crime and crazy stuff, trapping, I want them to be able to see that you can grow up in an environment like ours and neighborhoods like we live in, against all the odds that are stacked against us, and still be able to make it out of there and be successful without taking the traditional routes that we think we have to take. At the same time, I want them to see that when you make it out of these situations and you get the opportunity to be successful you don’t turn your back on the environment that you grew up in but you take your time, resources, and energy to try to come back and show them how to be successful to.”
