Inspiring Hope Productions founder Victor Rogers loves the classic sports film Miracle.
Even more than that, Rogers loves the U.S. Hockey team’s actual unimaginable 1980 win over the Soviets that the movie is based upon.
“We can always easily point to an image or something in our nation’s history that has turned the tables for us and inspired us to reach a little higher and overcome certain challenges and obstacles,” Rogers said. “When 1980 rolled around, we needed something, and we got a miracle. Twenty kids laced up their skates against the powerful Soviet hockey team and beat them. One game – one competition – united our country. It galvanized us. It’s a moment that any of us that were alive would never forget.”
In light of recent racial and political fractions in our country, Rogers believes it’s time for another miracle; only this time in basketball.
And his dream is to make that happen.
Rogers has an idea for a reality show called Team of Dreams, which gives basketball players a second chance. His ultimate dream would be able to see the team of second-chance players represent the United States in the Olympics.
A father of a special needs son, Rogers knows a lot about hope.
“I feel like there are a lot of people that feel left behind, like the American Dream is just a fairy tale to them,” Rogers said. “We’re all about changing that, bringing something to our country that will inspire other people. Sports are a unifying force in our country. The time is right for this idea.”
The Team of Dreams executive producer loves the inspiration provided by the original Dream Team in 1992. And while the current group of coach Mike Krzyzewski-led NBA players have been great ambassadors, Rogers believes the idea of having NBA players compete has lost its luster.
The American millionaire basketball player really has nothing left to prove on that stage.
Rogers’ idea would follow a group of basketball players trying to rebound in the game of life through the reality television show.
“Team of Dreams is really about finding some of those guys who have lost their way – maybe one too many poor choices – and giving them an opportunity to redeem themselves,” Rogers said. “We want to showcase them for America to witness on a reality TV show. We’re talking building a grassroots team. This is one way we can come together as a country and unite. They can see these players – their neighbors and their brothers – making it and then they can start dreaming again and hoping again.”
Rogers has literally traveled from coast to coast – from Hollywood to the National Association of Television Producer Executives (NAPTE) Conference in Florida – promoting the Team of Dreams concept.
We’re at the proposal stage, trying to build momentum by showing that this is an actual concept, idea, and brand that is ready for production.
His ultimate goal is to inspire others the way the U.S. Hockey team inspired him.
“My ultimate dream would be to see this take off at a level that no one in this country could come close to understanding as far as excitement,” Rogers said. “My ultimate goal would be to see the network executives as excited as everyone I have talked to about this project. All the responses so far have been excitement. It’s been, ‘Where can I watch? When can I watch?’”
