JTH: What are some things that you would say to aspiring Christian Hip-Hop artists?
Stephen: Number one, if you’re married, take care of your family. That’s your priority. If chasing your dreams is going to make you a terrible husband and father, then your dreams are the problem, not your lack of their fulfillment. Number two, plug into a local church. If you’re not plugged into a local church, you will get bigheaded, arrogant, and have nobody to humble you when you’re tripping. After that, just make sure that you’re making good art. If you’re an artist and you call yourself a Christian, your job is to make art that reflects the creativity of the One who created you. What makes your art worth doing is how good it is. If you’re wack, then you’re wack, nobody is going to want to buy it. Make sure that you’re making good art, your business practices are on point and godly, and have your message have some kind of substance worth listening to.
JTH: Is there anything else that you want to say?
Stephen: I wrote some of my album while I was away in Europe. I think I was motivated by how much I missed my wife cause I was gone for about two weeks. When you hear the second half of [the song] “143,” I wrote that while I was away from my wife. Get the album, it just dropped, let others know to get it.
