JTH: What can we expect from Lamp Mode Recordings in the future? There have been a lot of changes in the label in the past several months. Json became the president and there is a new female executive.
Stephen: I think that we’re trying to be more organized, professional, and intentional about how the public sees us and how accessible our content is, how we spend out money, putting albums out. Json is doing a great job thinking through certain stuff that we haven’t considered in a long time and helping all of the artists grow together. I think that you’re going to see a better, more mature, intentional label that is growing and improving.
JTH: What other Lamp Mode artists will be putting out new music soon?
Stephen: I think Json is next. He should be putting something out early next year. I think that Tim Brindle is working on something. I could be wrong, but I feel like S.O. or Shai might be working on something.
JTH: What else do you do outside of music?
Stephen: I’m actually a house parent. A lot of people don’t know what that is. Basically, when the state takes kids from their parents because of negligence or abuse, they place them in different places. My company is one of the options for that. It’s called Christ’s Home for Children, and they take those kids and can house 6-9 of them in one spot so that we have a draw for big sibling groups. My wife and I [are one of the married couples they hire] to play the role of parents to these kids. We’re kind of like part parent, part social worker, because there’s a lot of paperwork involved there also. It’s very time consuming. We’re on shift for four and a half days at a time, taking care of the kids, making sure that they get to school, do their homework, chores, etc.
