PHILADELPHIA, PA – It’s Lamp Mode’s lyrical theologian, Stephen the Levite, like you’ve never heard him before. Sonically, the Cali-bred, Philly resident’s new album, Can I Be Honest?, slated for a Nov. 18 release, is a veritable feast for listeners’ ears.
“This is the album I’ve worked hardest on,” said Stephen the Levite, real name Darrell Bell, in a recent interview. “It’s been like a three-year process trying to make it here. I’ve put more of myself into this album than with the other projects.”
Known for delivering theological content, which the devoted husband and father says provides a clear and honest depiction of who he is, he further explained, “This is a different kind of honesty. It is a lot more personal and self-revealing, and mature.”
Among the myriad of Christian Hip Hop releases this year, there are few that are as open and honest as Stephen the Levite’s latest.
“Why did I share these things? Because the truth is, as a lyrical theologian, at first, I thought it wasn’t necessary to share these things,” said Stephen the Levite. He then added, “But after pondering it, I believe, because we learn just as much from David’s life as we do from the Psalms, I thought it was necessary to include these deeply personal things in my album.”
