Sinatra Osm Re-emerges After 6-Year Hiatus with God
In 2008, while still a junior in college, Sinatra Osm was hand selected by Andre Benjamin 3000 to star as Sunny Bridges in Class of 3000 LIVE! at the prestigious Alliance Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. “This was big, so I took a year off from school to do it,” Sinatra said. Grammy award winning rapper-actor-producer Andre 3000 said, “Sinatra was very good in Class of 3000 LIVE! and his personality will help him on his road to stardom.”
Now, more than six years after stepping away from the entertainment business to be with God, Sinatra Osm reemerges with a renewed mind and fresh sound. “It’s called ‘SymPopth.’ Symphony, pop, rap, and theatrics. It’s something totally different for young people and everyone else too,” Sinatra said.
Far from a newcomer, over 14 million homes nationwide experienced a 15-year-old Sinatra Osm as host of Robert Townsend’s Thousand Dollar Bee on Black Family Channel in 2004. Sinatra also guest starred in Tyler Perry’s sitcom Meet the Browns and was soon after asked to return to the Woodruff Arts Center for their yearly Broadway style production of A Christmas Carol.
“My career was accelerating. That’s when I met Mr. Simmons…again,” Sinatra said. Industry veteran and voice specialist Ulysses Simmons met Sinatra years prior at Black Family Channel. “Sinatra is known by industry professionals as the next biggest producer out of America,” Simmons says. “And he’s bad!”
“He would speak about the Bible in a way I hadn’t heard,” Sinatra said. “That’s when God told me to leave the business and become a disciple under Mr. Simmons.” Putting his passion on hold, Sinatra immediately left the entertainment business and returned to Dayton, Ohio to finish his Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting at Wright State University where he received a full talent scholarship.
“We were talking several times a day, every day about the Gospel, music, politics, everything!” Sinatra says, “I was thankful the Lord sent Simmons and stopped me in my tracks. There’s no telling where I might’ve been with that type of mind-set. I believe that’s why God blessed me to leave.” Temptation, though, was always near. Many major roles and substantial monetary contracts were offered during Sinatra’s time away. “I had become a new creature and couldn’t be totally committed while auditioning, performing, and trying to be in the studio and whatnot, so we declined many opportunities.” Now, after all these years, Sinatra says God has given him the green light to return to the mission.
“We’re living in exhilarating times and the world needs Truth immediately. God is sending us out now to preach and teach to the nations through ‘SymPopth,’ musicals, sitcoms, and the works. Just pray we don’t get flogged or stoned…yet.”
