When he was young, his brother taught him how to write choruses for songs. Serene’s brother rapped and inspired him to start rapping. As he got older, Serene learned more about how to write music and how to use music to tell a story.
Serene started making music thirteen years ago as part of a hip-hop group called AFG Nexus with his brother and about nine others. Five of them were musical artists and six were dancers.
“We were a big movement here in the U.K.”

When members got older, the group broke up around 2005-06 before Serene ventured into being a solo artist in 2009.
His new EP is called Different Strokes II: Mending Broken Strings and is
“essentially wanting to communicate that God is there to comfort us and heal us from our brokenness.”

[/columns_row] Part one of Different Strokes was a mixtape that released in 2010, which was Serene’s most recent project until part two released in May. “With the first project I think I had a lot of expectations with writing and recording it and releasing it. My expectations were to kind of release it, get signed, go on tour, and then start that process of doing an album and all of those things. When that didn’t happen, I just thought ‘What am I doing music for?’”
Good Interview Serene, good to see someone from the UK on here. Would be good for JTH to get some interviews from other UK artist like Guvna B, Dwayne Tryumf, Melvillous, Rain Freedom.
