The late and forever great, Keith Elam, once said: “I put in work and watch my status escalate“. That’s a far cry from the “speak it into existence” mantra that seems to rule the current day. Cool catchphrases aside, there are still some who recognize that the story is just as important as the glory and are ready to earn their props by the sweat of their brows.
In the same way that Lion-O called for back up from his Thundercat brethren, Sareem Poems links up with James Gardin, Sivion and Sojourn on his new single to collectively catch wreck like a crash dummy. “Work For It” is a four corner rallying cry encouraging everyone out there to get up, get out and get something. Tee-Wyla’s masterful production is a melting pot of Trap, House and Hip-Hop but with one singular aim – to make your body and mind move into action. The beat pulsates between motivational speaker theme music and the soundtrack to a spin class. All four rhyme sayers use their verses to inject shots of adrenaline and momentum into the listeners’ eardrums. However, the message is simple. Whatever you want, whatever you long for, whatever your dream is, you’ve got to work for it.
Mastering your craft is a part of the graft. Luckily for you though, you’ve got some funky music to bump while you’re out in the field.
Work For It is out now on Illect Recordings
