4. It passes a sanctification test. I read a piece written by the late A.W. Tozer about testing the spirits. He listed seven tests to see if something was of the Lord. You can summarize them like this:
- How does it affect our concept of and attitude toward God?
- How does it affect our attitude toward the Lord Jesus Christ?
- How does it affect our attitude of the Holy Scriptures?
- Does it inflate or deflate the pride of man?
- Does it increase or decrease our love for fellow Christians?
- Does it increase or decrease our love for the world (and world in this context is the world’s system that is opposed to God’s Kingdom rule)?
- Does it increase or decrease my love for sin?
If a Christian hip-hop album can yield the right answers to these questions, keep it!
Chris I love your viewpoints…nice post
Very good article. I really think that Christian rap is a incredible and viable vehicle of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I truly believe that these young men and women can spread the gospel of Jesus Christto people all around the world . As a matter fact, it’s already been done by people like Lecrae, flame, ambassador and truth . I think that the use of the words is so powerful that Christian rap can make such a tremendous impact on the world.
