Seeing first hand how music could reach people who were processing pain or struggle, he began to use the microphone attached to the table to spit over vinyl instrumentals. He began writing months after that December as he turned eleven.
Now 18 Years young and inspired now by artists such as Common Sense, KRS One, A Tribe Called Quest, Da Truth, Theory Hazit, Talaam Acey, Tamara Blue and numerous underground acts, Proverb now makes music to educate and uplift while holding himself accountable to the grade of quality that used to be inherent in Hip Hop. Currently a senior at San Marcos High School with a 4.17 GPA he is driven to find knowledge in all areas of life to bring it into his craft. “MC’s used to be teachers and had something to say every time they rhymed. One of the reasons you don’t see that anymore is that the MC’s themselves are not thirsty to learn.” (Proverb)
Proverb the Poet will by attending NYU this fall on the Steinhardt Scholarship to major in Music Technology Half way through his lifespan as an MC, God began to make Himself more present in his lyrics as Proverb’s spiritual walk strengthened and his art took on a more divine purpose. “I see now that without God my words would be nothing. It is He that is using me to reach my generation and just as my microphone can’t take credit for what I am saying, I can’t take credit for amplifying the words God is giving me.” (Proverb)
The message he spreads for the glory of God is not as simple as only being worship music. It is a body of art from the perspective of a walking Christian speaking about everything from social causes and daily struggles, to the joy of living on this earth and the good moments that come from life. Having performed with acts such as Braille, Pigeon John, LMNO, Red Cloud, Poems and theBREAX, Proverb has built up a foundation of being a solid performer first when he gets on a stage, delivering a set with true positive Hip Hop music, Spoken Word Poetry, and Bboying.
Working with producers such as World Famous Beat Junkie “Jazzy Jay” Scribbling Idiot’s “Motion Plus” and Hip Hop is Music’s “Sojourn” on the 2nd professional album in his musical career titled “For the Kids”, Proverb the Poet is working now towards embodying the passion of his daily journeys and raw performances into something to be remembered for years to come.
