Promise is the newest signing to Good Fruit Co., the label home to J. Han, Sam Ock, and AMP. When Promise saw J. Han’s music video for “Han Solo,” which released about a year ago, “I was like wow, this is dope. He’s pretty fresh and he’s Asian. This is cool.” Promise reached out to J. Han via Instagram, offering to bring the Good Fruit Co. artist to Canada to be on a tour.
“I had just started this concert series called “That Good Life” so I told him to come up.”
In July of 2015, J. Han came to Canada to be on the tour and heard some of Promise’s music while there. J. Han and his fellow AMP member CL “were like, man, your stuff is dope and I think it works well with our stuff too. You should come out and tour with us.” In August Promise toured with them for two weeks and they developed more chemistry and a stronger relationship.
“I’ve been in a lot of [record label] situations. I’ve been with a lot of major artists, major labels, and one thing I respect about these guys [Good Fruit Co.] and why I wanted to work with them is their integrity and work ethic… They haven’t been in the game for twenty years, but the way they operate, it is as if they had.”
