Promise started releasing music in 2002, and in 2005, he started finding his musical message and began to work with artists from Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music in Chicago.
He said that as a result of that experience, he understood that artists around Toronto care more about what they say while Chicago artists focus on how they say their message. Promise wants to focus on what he is saying as well as how he is saying it. “That means taking breaths, stage presence. Not just spitting off from my mouth and rapping, but more talking to the listener.” From that and other experiences, giving the example of Kanye West, Promise says
“The superstars are people who were being themselves when it wasn’t cool to be [who they were]. It took a lot of us a lot of time but I’m finally in a place where I’m comfortable being me.”
