Paul “PaulWrites23” Martinez is a Hip-Hop artist who raps and writes about rap. The Hip-Hop artist and journalist, who was born in the 90s, fell in love with music as a child. He can remember being 8-years-old, listening to Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” on South Florida radio, while chilling with his cousin Sindy. Eminem, Jay-Z, Nas, Lecrae, T-Bone, Big Pun, and more inspired him to pick up the mic, and a family of music lovers helped shape him. His mom from Gary, Indiana (Chicago Land) played all genres of music growing up.
Throughout elementary, middle, and high school he won rap battles, talent shows, and appeared on various media outlets. In 2004, he had a life-changing experience involving God that has impacted his approach to music. In 2010, @Jblaze305 gave him a shot to intern for his radio show FNFLive, which is considered legendary in South Florida for the innovative way it represented Urban Christian Culture and Christian Hip-Hop. PaulWrites23 was able to witness this history while reporting news and spitting dope bars every Friday on FNF.
In the years after, he became even more active on the South Florida Hip-Hop scene as an artist and journalist. His work has appeared on sites like HipHopDX, Jam The Hype, SphereofHipHop, and Rapzilla. He has performed at events including Lecrae, No Malice, and Gemstones. In December of 2017, he won the Hip Hop Mike (Hot 97) Beat Challenge. At the end of the day, Paul wants to rep God, family, and friends well.
