A letter that Pastor Leon Brown from reformation21.org wrote to Lecrae and Andy has been generating dialogue in the Christian Hip Hop community.
Read the letter below and let us know what your thoughts are.
Dear Lecrae and Andy,
We have never met, but I thought I would take the time to share some things with you. Your names have been floating around Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube quite a bit lately. As I am sure you know, not all of it is good. Apparently, it comes with the territory. The more one is elevated in the public sphere, the more one is susceptible to criticism. I hope in the midst of such criticisms, the Holy Spirit will sustain both you and your families.

You’re always welcome to share your own thoughts. That’s why it’s conversation 🙂
Cool Thanks. I’ll just let y’all keep having this one tho. Very encouraging and affirmative article thanks for posting.
A lot of people really criticize them for making music that’s not “biblical enough”. Yeah I understand some lyrics shouldn’t be on there but overall I think we should automatically pray when we feel there’s something wrong, instead of saying words that we think that would help them
That is how the true body of Christ works.
Praise God this was a refreshment to me he is so on point with the imbalance of criticism and how it’s been handled I pretty much assumed when I read the headline it would be another attack or criticism which in of itself proves what he saying. I pray more people follow his example and act like believers. Grace & Peace to all who believe and trust in the Lord Jesus!
How is that the media only targets Christian Rappers.. for not talking about Jesus enough? Skillet is a Christian rock band and I have NEVER heard God or Jesus’ name said once. But He (God, Jesus, Holy Spirit) is mentioned on nearly every song by Andy or Lecrae, but their music isn’t
“Christian enough”?
Such a good point! Double standards I guess…
It’s about time they get encouraging words??? That’s mainly all they get because of who they surround themselves with. Just because you see a lot of negativity on the internet doesn’t mean that’s mainly what they hear. Plus there are genuine concerns that me and many others feel, some handle it wisely others not as much, that doesn’t mean there isn’t an issue.
i agreed with pastor brown until we, at Jam the Hype, did our interview with Lecrae backstage at WinterJam Atlanta 2014. Listen to Lecrae’s response. I am satisfied.
