Chinese-American Hip-Hop Icon MC JIN Announces Campaign with PledgeMusic
Multi-talented rapper and actor Jin Au-Yeung, also known as MC Jin, has announced a PledgeMusic campaign for his second full-length English album, 14:59, set for release on October 19th, 2014. MC Jin chose PledgeMusic’s direct-to-fan platform to interact with his strong fanbase and reach a larger audience worldwide.
Since making his American appearance on the music scene more than a decade ago, MC Jin has racked up a long list of impressive accomplishments and became a pioneer in the hip-hop genre by breaking down barriers with his diverse talent. He first garnered national attention in 2002 when he stunned audiences with his talent on BET’s 106 and Park Freestyle Fridays. In 2004, he became the first Asian-American to release a solo rap album on a major label in the U.S. and catapulted to fame in China. A decade later, MC Jin is a celebrated name in Hong Kong, has sold hundreds of thousands of records, and won numerous awards for his acting roles in Film and TV.
MC Jin shared: “It was in Miami, 20 years ago, when I heard LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” for the very first time. From that moment on, my passion for rap music would alter the course of my life in ways I never could have imagined. 10 years later, I watched my childhood dreams of Hip Hop stardom come to life when I released my major label debut album, The Rest Is History.
As the saying goes, “The higher you fly, the harder you fall”. Faced with the complex inner workings of the music industry and the unexpected pressures of being touted as “the first signed Asian American solo rapper”, things started unraveling right before my eyes. With record sales not being astronomical as projected and expected, what was supposed to be my moment of glory ended up being more of a reality check. From parting ways with my label to losing battles left and right, it seemed like my “15 minutes” were indeed winding down.
I wholeheartedly believe 14:59 is the album I was born to make. Every thing that I have experienced leading up to this moment has set the stage for this project. It may not be my final chance to leave my mark as an artist, but I am approaching it like it could be and that is the heart of this album. I want to personally invite you to be a part of this journey.” As the 10th anniversary of his first English album released via Ruff Ryders nears, MC Jin will release a highly anticipated collection of songs on 14:59 and is inviting his dedicated fanbase to come along for the journey. As the first PledgeMusic campaign to be translated into Chinese, MC Jin will offer his fans exclusive opportunities, content and merchandise upon pledging support.
