Despite disappointments at the hands of certain men, the towering brown-skinned beauty that is Mahogany Jones is most certainly A ROMANTIC. Not only that, Mahogany just loves, respects, and appreciates her brothers in and out of the faith. Period. She may have an intense work ethic, but I believe that the right man at the right time could bring the emotional, personal, and spiritual balance that ‘Jonzi’ would love. It’s not like she’s isn’t approachable. For someone as independently accomplished, attractive, gifted, and intelligent as she is, Mahogany is probably one of the most down to earth people you could ever hope to meet. She would love a brother to be as sincere, purposeful, and spirit-filled as vocalist Chris Lawson is on the PURE neo-soul number called “Girlfriend” with rapper Iomos Marad. She would love to be as bashful and demure with the right dude as she is on her compilation’s title track. My only caution is this; reckless brothers need not apply in trying to win Mahogany’s heart, especially if they possess the mentality of the “ruthless and deceptive player” that emcee J.Johnson brilliantly emulates on the Chris Lawson assisted “Game.” So, until the right brother comes along, Jones will be working hard and remaining content in being “Single” with the assurance surrounding the song of the same name featuring Lydia John. As you can probably tell from these conceptual songs, art imitates life in Mahogany’s world. In discussing PURE: Volume 1 over the phone with her recently, I remarked that one of the things I loved about the album was that even though there’s plenty of material that speaks to the tribulations and triumphs that women go through, it didn’t feel like it was a recording MADE ONLY FOR WOMEN. It didn’t feel overly feminist, male threatening, or worthy of a label that read “Sex Advisory: For Women Only.” Mahogany’s reply to my observation was quick and confident. She wanted PURE to not only empower and relate to women, but also give men a greater understanding of the women they should be loving, protecting, and cherishing, as well as inspire them to be better men through quality hip-hop music they can definitely get into.

Thank you for this review. It is spot on, the concept score should have been at least a 9 but it’s cool lol. Great review!
