In the WinterJam lineup announcement made the evening of October 8, 2013, it was announced that Lecrae & Derek Minor will be hitting the road with many of the top names in Christian music like Newsboys, Colton Dixon, Plumb, Tenth Avenue North, Thousand Foot Krutch, and NewSong for Winter Jam 2014.
Crae has been making moves in the Christian and mainstream market. At the last Dove Awards, Lecrae took home 2 trophies for “Hip-hop/Song Of The Year” (“Tell The World” Feat. Mali Music) and “Hip-hop/Rap Album Of The Year” (Gravity). The Gravity-crafter is nominated for “Best Gospel/Inspirational Performance” (“Confessions”) at the 2013 Soul Train Awards, an event that is also recognizing mainstream musicians like Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, and Jay-Z. Lecrae performed at Rock The Bells, BET’s “106 & Park” and the A3C Conference this year (2013), among other mainstream events. Winter Jam 2014 is another note-worthy tour the rapper will be able to add to his resume.
Derek Minor, also of Reach Records, also joins the tour. Formally known as PRo, he is also part of Reflection Music Group and just recently released his album Minorville, the first album under his new name, on September 10th of this year.
Winter Jam was formed by NewSong in 1995. Since its inception, the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular has showcased the talents of Christian musicians like tobyMac, Third Day, Steven Curtis Chapman, Skillet, Jeremy Camp, and many others. In 2012, Winter Jam outpaced attendance for all other tours in the first quarter of the year, including Cirque du Soleil – “Michael Jackson: The Immortal,” Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, The Black Keys, Jason Aldean, and Brad Paisley, according to Pollstar’s 2012 Worldwide First Quarter Ticket Sales “Top 100 Tours” chart.
