Brooklyn, New York-born Hip Hop artist Lavoisier has been creating lyrical verses for a minute. The Christian emcee is known in the Hip Hop world for his quality music, thought-provoking social media statuses, collaborations with noteworthy lyricists (Bizzle, Sevin, Dre Murray, J Givens & Swoope), and a middle-school classroom video on fake rappers that currently has over 650,000 views. He has been featured on AllHipHop.com, Thisis50.com, and more. The former drug dealer and gang member wears many hats; he is a rapper, speaker, entrepreneur, youth activist, and computer programmer, among other things. Lavoisier is proof that God can transform the life of a Hip Hop wordsmith for the better. He is definitely a rap veteran who still has a lot more history to write.
Vois has a reputation for speaking his mind on various issues. The difference between him and some of the other Christians who rap is that you will catch him walking out what he talks. Lately, The God Over Money-affiliate & AOmega Global Military-general has been speaking on the need for Christian rappers to not waste their life just emceeing. Fortunately, the New York spitter can speak on that issue. He does much more than rap and has been speaking to the youth in his community for years. In March of 2014, he graduated from Flatiron School in New York City, a web development boot camp. Flatiron School has raised $5.5 million to deliver technical training to would-be software developers in classrooms in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
The Flatiron School is a web development boot camp,” says Lavoisier to JamTheHype.com. “It’s Mon-Fri, 9am – 6pm, for 22 weeks. It was incredibly challenging. Over 1200 applicants, 28 students accepted, that’s a 2% acceptance rate (less than Harvard). My class was a diverse group of really smart folks, from all walks of life and quite a few Ivy Leaguers (Princeton, Brown, Stanford, etc.). In September, I began teaching middle school and high school students various introductory web development courses at Queensborough Community College here in NY. Learning and teaching young Black and Latino kids Computer Science had been a desire and passion of mine since November 2011. So, when I got an email about the Flatiron School accepting applicants, I applied right away. I got into Flatiron in October and continued to teach young people on the weekend while completing the program. It was grueling, and totally worth it. There were weeks my household had to go w/o income, but God was faithful to provide. Although graduating and completing the program was an awesome milestone, I know this is only the beginning of my journey with computer programming and education. Just a month ago, I was a technical mentor for a couple of high school students at a hackathon at Microsoft. The app they built came in 4th place. Right now, my focus is becoming a better programmer, putting out records, and feeding the people. Shout out to everyone who cheers me on as I venture out into these uncharted waters, going where no rapper has gone before!

Congrats to Lavoisier for graduating from Flatiron School in New York City and showing emcees that they don’t have to be stuck in the “I can only be a rapper to make an impact” box.
