Karl Nova is an artist many of you may not be familiar with. He hails from the UK where he has been making a buzz for some time. His latest effort Delayed But Not Denied is definitely buzzworthy. To put it in Mr Nova’s words this album “… the album captures the idea of how life can seem like a cruel game of chance to get ahead but reminds us that it only seems so since God is in control of the life of a believer. Nothing is left to chance, everything is for a purpose.and works together for good to bring about God’s promises even when they seem delayed in coming to pass.” On this gem Karl features production by a member of his Crew Emmanuel Edwards and has guest spots from other members of the same collective GK Real.
The album starts with Mic Check- an up tempo intro in which Mr Nova exhibits some excellent breath control, and witty wordplay. It flows into a pop styled track called Still an Overcomer. The beat is light but Karl still shines lyrically for example …”Yes you want more for us/right now you are morphin us/ Yes you are transformin us/yes you are conformin us/ such an amazin act you perform in us/ thru the stages of our life you’re on tour with us…” The best track on the album for me is Brand New Day. A well crafted radio friendly track with a Christ centered message. I wish stuff like this could make it to mainstream outlets more readily. The musical stylings of the tracks span the gamut from pop to neo soul to a dubstep reworking of one of the tracks More than Just Music. The diversity is refreshing, even though I personally don’t feel some of the tracks I can appreciate the craftmanship in the production and accessibility of this album. Delayed but Not Denied is definitely an album I can play anywhere and with anyone and they will find something they like about it. A strong effort by a talented emcee.
