JTH: Can you tell me about your family?
Jonathan: Yeah. I have a wife, going on two years of marriage in September. I have a son who [is] three months old [this month], so these are exciting times.
JTH: Do you do anything for a living outside of music?
Jonathan: I am a courier, who is like a messenger, and I am also a full-time musician. A courier is like a runner, a third person delivery service. We work with attorney-at-law offices and stuff like that. That’s my 9-5 and I do music as well.
JTH: Were you part of the making of Yaves’ “Yuck” music video? I thought it was silly how you all were riding bicycles downtown.
Jonathan: I had the privilege to be in it. We were riding bikes like little kids; had a lot of fun. It was fun, it was like, “Hey, let’s go down here and grab these bikes.” We got them and we literally rode down High Street, which is one of the main streets here in Columbus. It was kind if weird cause people were riding by, being like, “Oh, you guys are shooting a video,” and we were like “Yeah.” They would turn around and follow us. We had a lot of fun doing it.
JTH: Are you going to have a music video for your new project?
Jonathan: I absolutely will, for the single “Right Here.” We’ve filmed [it] and are now editing that. It’ll be out soon.
JTH: Is there anything else you want to tell us?
Jonathan: No, not really. I would just want the reader to be encouraged when they hear the project [and] to take loving one another seriously. If they have any dream, goals, [or] aspiration[s], I want them to be encouraged to be themselves. Don’t try to be anyone else, because God made us who we are for a reason. Be yourself, strive for greatness, [and] give it your absolute all. I can give another portion of me. I produce as well, and there was a portion of time when my production was at a standstill. Nothing was happening with it. I was at the stage where I felt like giving up. I was at a wedding in Maryland, and I got a phone call from Christon Gray. He’s like, “Do you remember the track that you sent me?,” and I’m like, “Which one?,” and he’s like “the one that’s got strings, etc.” I’m like, “Yeah,” and he’s like, “They [Christon and the main producers] love it” and I’m like, “You’re kidding,” and he’s like “No they really do.” That ended up being the song “Windchaser” on School of Roses. I get another phone call a couple of months later and they’re talking about “Wanna,” saying that they love this track. So, that was another one and “After All” was a third. These are all records that I’ve had a part of before I was talking about giving up. Had I given up, I don’t think I would’ve had the opportunity to work on such a great album. I encourage anyone to give your all to your passion. You’ll never know what’s gonna happen.
Wow, this is a great interview.
