If you love hip-hop mixed with some R&B/Soul, then this is the album for you. Jonathan Baker is here with his EP titled Live. This native of Erie, Pennsylvania is really doing his thing on this album. He has some dope beats, acoustic sounds, and some fresh features with Deja Watson and T. Wong. This album really has a sweet old school vibe to it and will definitely make you feel fresh while listening.
The album starts with “Journey,” which has a beautiful piano intro that is followed by a violin before the drums kick in and take it to a new level. This is definitely my favorite track on the album. Jonathan has some dope rhymes on the track about the struggle that he had growing up being raised by a single mom. He takes us on a journey through this track and flows, “You want to get to know me well you know it now, take a journey with me, on this gurney with me.”
“Love Again” has a real smooth intro that leads us into a fresh hook.
I know there are some things that I’ve got to get right, some of the things I do and say, I’ve done wrong in life, Lord you know that I have changed, you know I’m not the same, I’m striving to be just more like you cause I want to live to love and live to love again.
This song really speaks about transformation and the desire that we have in our hearts to live a new life of love.
The last song on this EP, “Torn,” really hits.
I never knew what love means, till I met you, and I never knew what lies were, till I met you.
This song talks about the pain that we feel in relationships. This really speaks because a lot of us have been in this situation before due to the actions of someone we love. It’s a great song. The piano really drives it home.
I definitely recommend this album to all of y’all. It’s a smooth one.
