Je’kob has been called a “rap auteur” by Apple iTunes editors, and he has justly earned the title. Having sold over 100,000 records for Word Records under his original family trio, “Souljahz”, Je’kob and his sister Rachael rebooted as “The Washington Projects” and released both rap and EDM bangers. Each has also released solo projects, with Je’kob’s “Love Is All” reaching a rare status in Christian hip hop to be played on Air1 radio and to be placed on the Billboard CHR chart for 26 weeks, tied with MercyMe. Widely regarded as one of the most avant garde Christian hip hop artists, Je’kob is respected by secular, CHH, and CCM artists and fans alike.
After the birth of his son, Je’kob put down the microphone momentarily to be a dad, and now after a “parental hiatus” has now returned with the single “Reset”. Je’kob has also been a vocal critic of streaming, as it takes advantage of artists, thus the new single release is only available as a download. However, Je’kob assured Jam The Hype that a whole album full of singles are already prepared and will be released in turn over the coming months.
The new and subsequent singles lyrically cover going through life change, such as becoming a dad, and finding peach, and then also tackling socially conscious themes, similar to Propaganda’s Crooked.
