Bio/Notes: J Prophet, also known as The Ghostwriter, hails from Mt. Vernon, NY by way of Cleveland, OH.  A child of poetry, he performed Langston Hughes’s “I, Too, Sing America” in church at the age of 4.  His grandmother proved to be a major influence on him as she challenged him, even at an early age, to use the written and spoken word to express every fiber of his emotion.
While he is inherently a poet, Hip-Hop culture also emerged as a deep passion.  Instead of identifying solely with mainstream rap music, however, J Prophet chooses to use his gift to glorify the one who gave him the gift in the first place with an urban sound that blends Hip Hop, Gospel, and Spoken Word Poetry.  This is a sound which has been heavily influenced by Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, and Cross Movement. He has collaborated with artists like Antoine and Kevin Olusola, and shared the stage with artists like Staceyann Chin and Lupe Fiasco.
A 2010 graduate of Yale University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies, J Prophet was a member of the Yale Football team, WORD Performance Poetry, and served as President of the Yale Black Men’s Union.  He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.  He will be attending Yale Divinity School where he will work towards a Master of Divinity.
