What happens when you get old?  I don’t hear people really ask that question.  When I interviewed Sean Slaughter and talked with him about the idea of retirement he said something that hit me, “Most artist’s don’t 401K that.”  Most consumers of this genre are teens and young adults.  One thing I’ve seen stay consistent over the years is the amount of people over the age of 40 at concerts is rather low.  So realistically, advice for the long-term future is never given.  One thing the common line I’ve heard used in several songs “Wife, house, kids, and a dog” used to really ridicule stuff being the end goal also devalues at the same time having long term goals.  I bet a lot of Christian hip hop artists have a wife, kids, and some sort of pet.  If we hit our 80’s and 90’s, what are we leaving behind?  What are teaching our kids about wealth?  Will our kids have an inheritance or will they have to borrow money to put us in the ground?  Have we surrendered our future to chance because we are truly afraid of money?  Maybe that is the core of the issue.  We are afraid and don’t want anyone to know we are afraid.

In the last six weeks, my life has turned five to eight different directions.  I’ve had chances given to me to grow my understanding of money and wealth.  I had opportunities presented to me that will cost lots of money to invest but the dividends to the investments will be 30 to 40 fold if they come through.  While I’ll be repping Bizzle yelling “God Over Money,” I’ve come to realize I still have to use money wisely as well.  If YHWH holds me accountable for my household, then that must include my finances as well.  I don’t want to that area to be a blemish.  So, I have to side with Paul when he penned that if he is well off or in hardship he can do all things through Christ who strengthens him.
