Unfortunately, another display of injustice has hit the news. According to NBC News, Amber Guyger was just sentenced to only 10 years in prison for the murder of Botham Jean. Guyger, a former Dallas police officer, fatally shot Jean believing he was a burglar. She reportedly entered his apartment by mistake. Further inflaming the situation, she apparently shared racist social media posts in the past. Prosecutors wanted to see Guyger get at least 28 years for her crime of murder.

Guyger, a five-year police veteran, lived one floor below Jean, 26, an accountant, in their apartment complex. She testified that she was off-duty but in uniform when she mistakenly entered his unit on Sept. 6, 2018, after a long shift at work, believed Jean was a burglar and shot him in the chest, saying she feared for her safety. – excerpt from NBC News article

Brother of Botham Jean, Brandt, showed the love of Christ and forgave. He gave more insight into the faith his family has.

Christian Hip-Hop artists had a lot to say about the news.

Ten years is definitely low for murder, and this case was sentenced more as a manslaughter case. Thankfully Botham’s brother showed grace to his family’s perpetrator, but voting for leaders who will stand for justice and make necessary change is needed.

Keep everyone involved in this situation in prayer. RIP Botham Jean.
