New Faces, New Places
There were several high profile moves made by some NBA franchises this past offseason. The three that everyone will be keeping an eye on and all of them involve the Boston Celtics. Former Boston Celtics coach, Doc Rivers, has made his return to the Clippers, trying to steer the ship toward an NBA title. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, cornerstones of the Celtics’ most recent title runs, have been shipped to Brooklyn to team with Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, and new coach, Jason Kidd. The old guard will attempt to hold fort and give Brooklyn a chance to win the Eastern Conference. Finally, the Celtics replaced Rivers with former Butler head coach, Brad Stevens. Stevens is barely older than most of his players and the Celtics lack superstar talent. Boston general manager, Danny Ainge, is putting his name on the line with this hire. The wins will likely be rare but it will be interesting to see if Stevens’ style can successfully translate to the NBA.
