Murray does not believe that performing for youth groups is a bad thing. He thinks that it can be very beneficial for the youth to hear his music and be impacted be it. Despite that, an artist should not pursue those bookings simply because they are easier to complete.

“Are you really going to bear fruit if you show up and do thirty youth group bookings just because they’re paying you? Maybe it’s time for you to say, ‘I’m going to find my tribe. I’m going to take some money out of my own account, book this venue on my own, let people hear my music, and for the people that gravitate towards that music, point them to that venue and do my music for them.’”

He also says that due to the massive volume of music available online, artists have to actively seek out their tribe. “We should’ve already been doing that, but in the Christian hip-hop community we’ve gotten comfortable because a lot of these youth pastors would bring us in to babysit their kids. That’s really what is has turned into, to be completely honest.”

“I may not have a million followers, but I have a group of people that I know [that] if I show up in a certain area they are going to be there and support me. That’s what it’s about.”
