“Part 2 (So Evil)” comes from Murray seeing the lives of people who appeared to “have it all together” then looking back upon himself.

Southern Nazarene University was a Christian school, and he felt like he was evil compared to the goodness he saw of those around him. “I’m from one of the worst parts of Houston. That environment [and mine were like] polar opposites.”

The name of “It Was All Good Just Yesterday” references Jay-Z’s 1998 song “A Week Ago.” It talks about the ups and downs in life, how one can feel good one day and bad the next. “It’s basically me having a conversation with myself after the ‘So Evil.’ I felt like I was this evil person. I changed; God completely changed me and I started living this life, and I had people trying to tempt me to do things that I used to do.”

These temptations caused Murray to think that he couldn’t be good, that he was always going to be a screw up, even after committing to follow Jesus.

“It’s me saying ‘Yo bro, it was really bad a week ago and just yesterday you were saying how good it was. Now you want to go back to that? Back to the darkness after being exposed to the light.”
