Dre Murray released a mixtape on Saturday, December 10th titled Dark Vader. Murray sees a lot of similarities between him and one of his favorite Star Wars characters, Darth Vader.
“Getting into the complexities of who Darth Vader is and thinking about my life and my journey as a believer, I drew some comparisons.”
Murray thinks about how Anakin Skywalker went from being good to turning to the Dark Side of The Force and becoming Darth Vader, and thinks about how he went from the darkness of sin to the light of Christ.
Conceptual thinking is among the specialties of Dre Murray in regards to his music, so Dark Vader was fitting for him to put together. He says that he looks at his projects like movies, with each song being a different scene.
“I would tell people that I’m a storyteller. At my core that’s what I am.”
Dark Vader was started in May of this year, with “Tings” being the first song recorded. After releasing a solo album and a joint EP with Alex Faith in 2015, Dre Murray was frustrated with his career. By the time Autumn 2016 came around, he was fully in the production process, writing and recording almost every day.
As he stated this project, so it is. This isn’t a launching platform, but a failed attempt to catch flight. Even with the video interview, 1+1 doesn’t add up to quality. I think that if your name goes on it, it should be an extension of you. 66 Books that have every reference we need to know, all of which point to ONE WHO IS, ONE WHO WAS HERE, AND ONE WHO’LL BE HERE SOON.Where is that in the current messages we hear? Not every song needs to be a sermon, but the message needs the roots planted in God’s fertile soil.
