My Upcoming Battle…….

As some of you may know and to those that don’t. My name is DJ Official (Real name Nelson C.). I DJ for Grammy award winning artist Lecrae. Also I DJ and Produce for Reach Records (Lecrae, Trip Lee, KB, Andy Mineo, Tedashii and Derek Minor). Been doing this for 13 years full-time and 6 years with Reach Records. To say I haven’t had a great life full of world traveling, award winning, producing music for artist I love and respect, DJ’ing for some of the greatest artist in our time and to do it with a purpose would be an understatement. Been married for 15 years and been a father (of 2 precious girls) for 9 years. Also last but not least, been a Christian for 17 years.  So to say my life has not been grand would (hate to repeat myself) would be a huge understatement. I am thankful to GOD for blessing me with a life most only dream of or strive to achieve. Not boasting in me or my life but in a GOD who has given me so much in my 30 plus years on this earth. He has trusted me with so much I could never repay him back but I can follow him and keep sharing the goodness of the Gospel till the end of my days.

So this brings us to the present. Now that you have a little history on me and where I have been and done.

Three years ago my life changed again. You have moments in your life that change the course of life for good or bad. I for one have had several life changes

1. The day I became a Christian

2. The day I got married

3. The day I became a full-time artist

4. The day I became a father

and the day I learned I had a serious illness that would change my life again.

Three years ago I got really sick around Thanksgiving time. I actually think I had the flu and became seriously dehydrated and had to go to the hospital. But low and behold there was something else going on. My kidney’s started failing at a rapid rate and my doctor’s had no clue what was going on. At the time I was about 70 pounds heavier than I am now but according to my doctor’s it had to be something else rather than just my weight and unhealthy lifestyle. Something I learned to combat and fix since this initially happened 3 years ago.

After several tests and trying to find out what in the world was going on I found out I had/have a rare form of Cancer in my Bone Marrow called Light Chains disease. Can’t fully explain it (other than my Alpha and Kappa cells are out of wack) but it’s a cancer that stems from the Bone Marrow and attacks the kidney’s. Plus if that wasn’t enough I started having trouble breathing on a daily basis which has gotten progressively worse these past few years. I also developed light emphysema in the lower lobes of my lungs. Mind you I never smoked a cigarette in my life, never worked a construction job and was never around harmful dusts or allergens that would harm me. My doctor’s are really perplexed as to how these 2 things happened at the same time. It’s crazy to have 1 rare thing happen but 2 at the same time is a 1 in a million’s chance.

It’s been rather difficult these past few years to do certain things in my life but GOD has given me the strength to fight on. At times doing shows, traveling, being a father, walking and the most basic things that normal people do on a daily basis is hard for me. But I continue on. There is no sense on quitting. There are times I do want to quit but GOD has really encouraged me from my wife, his WORD, my friends, my family and life in general to continue to fight and push on.

Which brings me to now………

In 2 weeks I will be getting a Bone Marrow Transplant. I will be my own donor. At the moment I’m actually in remission and thank GOD for it. So my doctor’s thought it would be a good time to actually do this Bone Marrow Translant right now to really put this illness into remission for a long time. Also they are hoping and I’m praying that with this Bone Marrow Transplant this will also help with my breathing. They are not sure it will, but we will see if it’s connected to my other illness. The doctor’s aren’t a 100% certain it will bring about a cure, but I and my family are leaning on the LORD. Looking in GOD’s Word he has done some amazing things in history that have amazed even the most brilliant minds and who’s say he can’t do it again. But……If he chooses not to perform a miracle. Me waking up each day, and me having the life he has given me is a miracle in itself.  But we are praying that GOD will heal and restore me back to full health.

This summer I had to take off 3 months cause of my illness and once I get this Bone Marrow Transplant I will probably be out of work for about 6 months. 1 month will be in the hospital which begins end of this month (October) or early next month. Plus time to recuperate. I’m asking those who read this if they could pray for the following things.

1. Pray for my wife and family during this time. At times it has brought anxiety, stress and a multiple of other things. Even though we trust GOD and follow him. We are human and succumb to the normal wear and tear of life during these times.

2. Pray that all goes well. A Bone Marrow Transplant is no joke. I will be without an immune system for awhile until my cells start to build my immune system again. They will blast my body with an intense chemotherapy to destroy all the bad cells in my body but it will also destroys the good ones. Once they put my old cells back that are filtered it should bring my body back on track, but it takes awhile. Plus with my bad breathing problems this does create another stumbling block in the process.

3. Pray for peace in a GOD who I know loves me and my family more than I ever could. I suffer from moments of anxiety at times and had a hard bout with it this summer but the LORD brought me out of it. But you never know when that will rear it’s ugly head as it gets closer to the transplant.

4. Pray for my finances. I am going to be out of work for 6 months. Even though I have insurance they don’t cover being out of work for so long. Plus I am self employed.

*There actually might be a way for you guys to help during this time. Lecrae and the good folks at Reach Records have set up a campaign to help me and my family during this time. If you feel inclined to help. You can donate and help here https://hisvoiceglobal.cloverdonations.com/djofficial/

Thank You.

5. Pray for healing.

6. Pray for the doctor’s doing my operation. I will be at the University of Penn for my operation.

I thank you guys for reading. I pray my life will be an encouragement to those who are also going through rather hard life lessons. If I can I will leave you with a couple of scriptures from GOD’s Word to encourage you and that have encouraged me even through the most difficult of times.

Jer 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and hope.

1 Thess 3:16

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding

Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your GOD; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous hand

Isaiah 26:3

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all anxieties on him, because he cares for you

Philippians 1:6

and I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ

Thanks again. While I’m in the hospital I will update this and most likely will post pictures, Youtube videos of my progress and tweet from time to time. All depends on how I feel.
