We received a phone call this morning from well-known Christian hip hop artist, Propaganda, that his long-time DJ and friend passed away this morning while traveling in Spain. Ron Sararana, better known as DJ Efechto was a huge part of Propaganda’s sound, the Humble Beast label, and well-respected across the Christian hip hop community.
DJ Efechto was a very close friend of all of us here at Jam the Hype and the Urban Youth Workers Institute community where he DJ’d at many of our events. Here was his latest performance at the Jam the Hype Festival in 2018…
And again in 2017…
Many artists have paid tribute to him on social media.
The last 8 years of my life, I’ve traveled the world doing music. And who was next to me what my dear Kuya @djefechto
We’ve shared hopes, dreams, tears, meals and hotel beds.
He was pursuing he’s dreams as a master chef ( @humblebeastro ) when he breathed his last breath. pic.twitter.com/WvQ2b0tomK— Prop (@prophiphop) November 21, 2018
@djefechto had a huge impact on me.
He was one of the first people I ever met in the industry.
He was doing a show with @prophiphop years ago..
This was before I ever produced.
Dude gave me so many tips and inspiration I still use today.
Bless you.

I wasn’t ready. Didn’t believe the news. I just saw @djefechto not too long ago. He was excited about focusing on his future as a chef. I’m glad we got to build, but this was too soon for me. #dontforgetaboutthedj

R.I.P @djefechto we were just eating together last week getting some pho for lunch before the show in LA. I’m sorry we didn’t have more time to kick it but when we did it was always a blessing. Love you brother.

I knew of @djefechto long before I had the opportunity to meet him. 1st and only time was on mission w/ him and Prop. The love for his craft, the kids and culinary arts were evident. Amazing heart. Praying for your family’s strength king. Love and Blessings 🕊 pic.twitter.com/tyXyzpafck

Propaganda was the first to announce DJ Efechto’s passing and worked with Spotify to curate a playlist in his honor.
