Derek Minor Discusses His Relationship With Reach Records

In 2014, Derek Minor announced that he was leaving Reach Records to focus on the RMG collective. Empire was his first post-Reach Records album, but don’t get it twisted, there is nothing but love between Derek Minor and Reach.

“It’s good man,” Derek Minor said.

“Lecrae was on the album. He was on ‘Until The End Of Time.’ Tedashii was on ‘Slow Down.’ Matter of fact, when the numbers came out, I pretty much did better than my last album with Reach. Chad Pearson over at Reach reached out and congratulated me and said ‘I’m grateful for what God is doing in your lives.’ I love Reach and that’s my family and will always be my family. Those guys are good guys. Just because we’re not on paper together doesn’t mean that we’re not friends and won’t help one another or serve one another. Reach is cool.”

Derek Minor explained why he thinks Empire did better than his last Reach Records release, Minorville.

“I’ve had a lot of cool stuff happen in-between that. Crae took me on Winter Jam with him, so that really helped out a lot. I think ultimately, what has happened, is my brand has grown a lot. I put in a lot of hard work and effort. The team over here at RMG, especially like on the social media front, those guys have been super creative in trying to roll out the entire project. I think it’s just a combination of what I was able to build at Reach and also furthering it with what we’ve been trying to do. eOne has been amazing with helping me with distribution and finding cool ways to help on the distribution front. I was all over on iTunes and that was eOne pulling strings. I looked up and I was on like Xbox and stuff. They were going hard man. I think it’s just a combination of some of the stuff that has happened in the past and also having a solid squad of people around me pushing.”
