Corey Paul wants to show gentleness and love to his listeners, but says that he will not compromise his message. “Die At The Top” represents that message using the metaphor of two armies coming to the top of a hill from both sides.
“If you [one opponent] believe in what you believe, and you [the other opponent] believe what you believe, somebody is going to die at the top of that hill, and somebody is going to succeed. This may not be a time for retreat.”
“Top Rope” featuring Derek Minor references an occurrence that occurs in wrestling, where one wrestler climbs to the top rope of the ring and jumps down onto another wrestler who is already on the ground.
“You jump off the top rope and hit somebody with an elbow, it’s a wrap… But the thing with that is if the dude ain’t as down as you thought he was, if he flips, rolls, or moves on you, and you land from the top rope onto the ground, the table will turn completely and he will have the upper hand.”
In the song, Corey Paul and Derek Minor say that believers need to come off the top rope. “You’ve got to try to hit your people with the gospel knowing they might move on you, might start hawking you and trying to pick you apart… but you’ve got to be confident knowing that this gospel message that we have, this good news has got to go anyways.”
