Deliverance- The action of being rescued or set free. C-Micah’s latest project takes a close look at a topic I think we neglect a lot in today’s modern western church. With all the talk of prosperity and even the belief that things like physical healing, mental deliverance, casting out demons, miracles are not for today, C-Micah tackles these issues head on and makes a strong case for why these gifts and deliverance is relevant for today’s Christian.
I personally have to say I’m really thrilled that someone actually put out a project on this topic in a positive light and not the standard spooky spiritual way that this topic has been addressed. Throughout this whole album C-Micah shows why the Christians walk is spiritual in nature. He explores the reason why we MUST fast and pray, how to be released from strongholds and addictions and the beauty of the healing power of God not only of our sin sickness but also healing for our physical bodies.
“No Applause” is the perfect way to start this cd off because in essence it’s not about us but it’s all for the glory of God. A lot of times people in the Charismatic or Pentecostal camp get labeled with just trying to draw attention to themselves. I’m not saying C-Micah is Charismatic or Pentecostal I don’t know for sure but given the theme of this project Its good for him to state off the top that Glory goes to God and not himself.
“Fast N Pray” gets right into it. A lot of the topics that C-Micah cover on this album seems elementary but how many of us really don’t practice these disciplines of fasting and praying. He references times where he needed direction for a decision and that fasting and praying was what he needed to get the answer. He talked about wrestling within himself about a new move in his life should he pray more or study harder then hearing a voice from the Lord, God urges him to fast and pray. This song also brings out that we are prone not to wait on God and listen to what he may want for our lives we just do what we want. Fasting and prayer opens wide the communications between us and God and it’s not an option we must fast and pray.
One of my favs on the cd is “I’m Healed” This is definitely an anthem, declaration song. C-Micah brings out that God is still a healer today of physical ailments of all kinds and we can depend on God as our Healer. A line that stuck out in this song was: ” Please don’t listen to what the devil say, him and those religious clowns say healing has passed away, but if it’s passed away then what happens to my mom exercised her faith God removed that lump up off her arm.” I say you can’t argue with results. God is still a healer today!
By far the realest song on the cd is “Struggling”, featuring Sean C. Johnson. This is the most transparent song I’ve heard in a minute and I appreciate C-Micah revealing a piece of himself. The song deals with the struggle that many men and women go through with pornography.
This cd deals with some heavy spiritual issues and that is one aspect that really stands out to me. I find that a lot of Christian Rap misses on hitting important issues that Christians deal with and don’t clearly speak of deliverance, but by the weakness seen in our congregations today there is definitely a need to deal with true freedom and addressing of these crucial issues.
If you are looking for a spiritually uplifting and convicting album I will say Deliverance is clearly one to cop. It’s definitely not ear candy and it will speak to your heart. It’s not your normal Christian rap cd so beware and I’m not trying to be spooky but I felt the presence of God speaking clearly to me through some of the songs and for that I say job well done to C-Micah for covering this project with prayer and hearing from God.
As for the quality of the album from a production side I’ve always known C-Micah to have some great sounding tracks that will get your head bobbing and this album is the same. I do notice a difference in the cleanness as far as crisp sound and mastering then what you would hear in a Reach Record project but I will say C-Micah and his team at About Face Music Group definitely offered a solid piece of work. Definitely give this project a listen, I believe you will enjoy it.
