Outside of his personal music, Yaves is involved in radio in Columbus. He is the Public Affairs Director for Radio One Columbus at Power 107.5 FM and Magic 106.3 FM in Columbus. With his job, he is able to benefit the community as well as bring the radio station revenue. He has his own radio show called “Any Given Sunday” which plays hip-hop and R&B music.
In 2008, Yaves started his own record label with his friend DJ Layne Luv.
“We don’t like to see ourselves as a label because we don’t take a bunch of artists and sign them. We’re more of a platform for artists to have a voice. We try to choose artists who are active in the community,” said Yaves in regards to Sling Shot Media Group LLC.
It’s more of a platform for artists who want to be effective in the social fabric of their communities.
They put together events where they feed the hungry in their community, have food drives, and work in prisons, schools, and more.
For us, we’re so much bigger than a record label, we’re a movement.
That is why he prefers to call his group Sling Shot Movement. At the end of February, they had an event to feed and give care packages to 300 homeless people in Columbus.
You will see more events that use music as a tool to expose people to the greater needs of the community.
Yaves is also involved in his community as a mentor for teens. He wants to work “with people like myself who are talented but do not have a good outlet.” The group Yaves works with runs two music studios for young people who want to learn about making music and the music business. He also links these youth with Christian mentors who have careers in fields where the kids have interest.
Praise God for artists like Yaves that are impacting their communities for the Kingdom.
