I always had the upbringing in the background of faith in my music, but I don’t think until I hit 17 or 18 years old that I began to realize that this gift was a lot bigger than battling and being the nicest rapper that I can be.

Yaves brought the mission of telling people about Jesus into his music, as well as speaking on social issues and the like. He wouldn’t only perform in churches when he started. “I would also go to clubs. I would also go to all secular venues, and I would rock there.” Over the years, Yaves has released well over 200 songs on about 12 projects.

Yaves started doing a series of EPs going along with the seasons because he feels that “music is like a soundtrack to life.” He felt that he was creating soundtracks to people’s lives in each of the seasons with these EPs. In Summer 2011, he released an EP In Summer’s Ear, and in Autumn 2012, he released In Autumn’s Ear. On February 10, Yaves released another seasonal EP, In Winter’s Ear.

In Winter’s Ear is one of those projects that really is to encourage people that we are only great when we serve others.

His EP starts out saying, “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever shall exalt him shall be abased, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.” He says, “So many times, we are trying to be the greatest rapper, we’re trying to be the greatest artist, trying to sell the most records, but really those who are great are those who serve others.”

Through this project, he speaks about the importance of serving our fellow people, racial injustice, lack of education, and more. He thinks that In Winter’s Ear will make people aware of racial inequality. He will most likely, however, not make an In Spring’s Ear.
