“Hear My Heart” is a very personal song dedicated to his sister Grace, who was born deaf.

“Basically the song is an apology for having never learned sign language to her.”

Though he did not learn sign language, Andy Mineo could still communicate with his sister. “I could communicate with her because she did really well at reading lips, so I would just kind of talk slowly and she’d pick up on it and then I could hear what she was saying because though her voice was altered by her deafness, I could still recognize what she was saying and so we would communicate that way.”

Andy Mineo could communicate with his sister Grace, but he said that he never took the time to learn her language, sign language.

“I was motivated to just out of maybe repentance, just saying, ‘man, I’ve hurt this person that I love cause I never was considerate enough to take time to learn.’”

He wants to make up lost time by learning sign language as an adult, something he is working on.

He says that “Hear My Heart” is his favorite song on the album and that it’s sound is the sound of the future for his music, saying, “Alex Medina was in the studio when I was playing that record. He was like ‘this sound is what your future music is going to sound like.’”
