The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been taking over social media.  Famous athletes, musicians, and public figures have joined forces to raise awareness of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” through filming themselves throwing a bucket of ice water on their head. Multi-platinum selling artist tobyMac recently nominated Grammy award-winning rapper Lecrae to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

So, now we have a challenge for you! Get on all your social networks and let’s see if we can get Lecrae to accept tobyMac’s challenge! Here’s a great outline of what you can say:

Hey @Lecrae! Accept and take @OfficialTobyMac’s Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS awareness!

From The ALS Association Website
ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.

It wasn’t until 1939 that Lou Gehrig brought national and international attention to the disease. Ending the career of one of the most beloved baseball players of all time, the disease is still most closely associated with his name.

Currently there is not a cure or treatment today that halts or reverses ALS.
