Dusty Marshall’s new single, Addition vs. Submission has a wavy flavor cooked up by production genius Spechouse, and features the dynamic flow of HOGMOB veteran, Illuminate. Marshall’s focus on this track is ministry minded, as he aims to challenge professing Christians to examine their own hearts and be wary of a false conversion. Guilty of misleading others in the past himself, Dusty Marshall wants listeners everywhere to know that simply repeating the “sinners prayer” to get into heaven one day largely leaves out our own sin and need for repentance and faith. Repeating a pray to go to heaven one day is not the true message of the Gospel. The message of the Gospel is that by God’s grace alone, sinners need to repent of their sins and believe in Jesus. Simply adding Jesus to our lives by repeating a prayer, rather than submitting to his Lordship, is one sign of a counterfeit gospel that cannot save.
Marshall goes on to say, “Being a Christian is not merely a title we place on our names or before the words “hip hop” to describe our genre affiliation. Being a Christ follower is not about sprinkling a little Jesus on our lives to make it “taste” better. True Christianity is a life-long pursuit and submission to God and His will. It is knowing that when we come to follow Christ, we come to die to ourselves and take up our cross to follow Him (Luke 9:23). Our humble dependence on Him in the midst of our every circumstance, defines our walk.“
