James Nwobu breaks down why the Kendall Jenner and Pepsi ad failed, and what the Church can learn from it.

  1. You’ve got to get down from your ivory tower.
You have to take serious what’s happening on the ground and actually understand what you’re talking about.  You can’t dismiss the stories that you hear and then think that you can speak for the people that are actually wrestling with the issues that you are not wrestling with.
  2. Sit down. Be quiet. And listen.
Just because you have a platform and the followers doesn’t mean that you have the answers.   Power, privilege, and position should be used to help those who don’t have them.  Those who have a voice should leverage it for those who don’t.
  3. The church needs more minority leaders.
Too often pastors are not actually engaging with the issues that they want to solve.  Churches need to hire people who have experience with the issues and ARE in the minority groups you are trying to reach.
