On July 5 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Alton Sterling lost his life in a fatal confrontation with two police officers outside a convenience store, according to ABC News. Sterling, a 37-year-old African American, was shot and killed by one of the officers. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back.
Reports say that Alton was selling CDs in front of the store before he died. Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman L’Jean McKneely said that officers were called to the scene after an anonymous caller claims that a man in a red shirt pointed a gun at someone and told them to leave the property. The Advocate (a daily newspaper with editions in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and New Orleans, LA), reported that “a witness described police as aggressive and said Sterling was armed but was not holding his gun or touching his pockets during the incident.”
Footage of the Alton Sterling shooting has been leaked. [Warning: Graphic Content]

Racial tension in our country has been high with the shooting of fellow image-bearers Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, and more happening in the last few years. We pray for increased peace, justice, and unity in our fallen world. Please join us in prayer. Christian hip-hop artists hit Twitter to share their thoughts on this tragedy.
My prayers are with the family of #AltonSterling

Most disturbing video I've seen since Eric Garner. If it doesn't break your heart, might need to re-evaluate some things. #AltonSterling

More often than not, it's as if the citizen bears the risk and not the cop. For many walking away alive from a police interaction is a feat.

Yet again, the video will not be enough. Already preparing for the news that the officer that killed #AltonSterling's will not face charges.

How many Black men—black image bearers of God—will die like this before you are willing to accept what is true? #AltonSterling

Who am I kidding though? This will continue to happen unless we all have an epiphany. Until we all become our brothers keeper.

It's gotta be bigger than bringing awareness to the general public. We gotta start changing the mindset of our children.

The officers are concocting their story. The police union is getting their lawyers briefed. The media is digging up dirt. A family mourns.

To my white bros and sisters, please know that our black bros and sisters have legitimate fear of the police. No one should live like that.
