“I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. [I] sold drugs most of my life. [I] grew up in a difficult environment, went through the process of robbing people, jail, and all of that type of stuff… And the Lord really saw fit to rock me at the age of twenty one.”

St. Louis native Json says that he got saved at the age of twenty-one, fourteen years ago. “[Now I’m] married, [have] three kids, that’s kind of it in a nutshell.”

Json says that rapping was always a part of the culture he grew up in, and music is therapeutic to him and provides him a way to communicate his life and feelings to others.

Json’s new EP is called Foreign, Vol. 1. For the past five years, he moved from St. Louis to live in Iowa City, Iowa, but last year he moved back to his hometown.

“Foreign was really me getting back home and feeling a certain energy from being back home.”

He says that he wanted to create music while he has this fresh energy of returning to St. Louis after years away.
