Andy Mineo has the streets buzzing again. The Reach Records-emcee recently asked some interesting questions on foul language and Christians using profanity.
Do you guys really think if a person uses "profanity" (words we've given meaning) in their music they couldn't possibly b Christian? Why?
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
@Ash_attacks no explain. How can a song b Christian. A song can't have a religion, people can.
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
@itsooosasere what are "curses" in that txt? The words in our culture we deem "curses"? His cultural words? Or actual CURSES?
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
@Shel_TheAnomaly your making being "set apart" synonymous with not using certain words. Who told u that was what it meant 2 b set apart?
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
@ruspotap u have the Greek word for when he swore too? Lol
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
Sad that so many Christians criticize other ppl on their faith journey. We don't leave space 4 them 2 b journeying. They're either IN or OUT
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
@pellegrino_papi would depend on the context he used it in. The words in and of themselves are not evil but their intentions can be.

@pellegrino_papi the meaning of profanity is the same, WE have deemed certain words profane – how? Why isn't "SHARP" considered "profane"?
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
@ruspotap @the_fitness_pro true. I don't have a rock solid answer. But that's why I asked the question. Purpose was convo not my answer.

@Shel_TheAnomaly Paul swore in the bible so what r u talking about
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
@pellegrino_papi your idea of Christianity is black and white. One day you'll understand there is grey & it's ok.
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
If I say "GREAT F#%*ING JOB!" Out of joyful heart bc my boy graduated or if I say "good job" w a jealous/hateful heart-which is pure b4 God?
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
@tee_wyla understood. But it's your job to filter what goes in their ears until they can make those decisions for themselves.
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
Y'all not ready to have uncomfortable conversations if u live in a Christian bubble.
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
@Kdubtru I guess there's no grey or journey in sampsons story either. Also not everything I am saying is in literal bible rhetoric

@JEBennett52 why would u be troubled by me asking questions?
— It’s pronounced ‘mini-o’ (@AndyMineo) February 13, 2016
Mineo believes the intentions of the use of certain words is what’s most important in determining if a person is using foul language.
“The words in and of themselves are not evil but their intentions can be.” – Andy Mineo
Not much more to be said. Sound off.
Interesting… some of his fans suddenly seem to be picking up a hammer and some nails..
Ugh! WHY should this even be a question? Should I take seriously a Christian who is bumping curse-laden “Christian rap” music proudly in their car?? Why is it that we Christians are constantly asking the question, “How unholy can I be and still be Christian?” Even that kind of contemplation really only points to a caged-selfishness that is pleading its case to others to be vindicated…which really only suggests that, unfortunately, that “old self” has yet to die.
Amen.people don’t want dying to self…taking up your cross..going thru the fire….self denial preaching anymore.I know I do. THE WAY IS NARROW!
I don’t like his condescending attitude here. I’ve seen it in the past, but I’ve always overlooked it. I don’t think Twitter (or social media in general) is the place to have this conversation either. Kinda disappointed in what Reach has been putting out recently. They’re trying to be edgy just to be edgy, and their overall attitudes are more negative and condescending than they used to be. Andy was all ready to crucify anyone that didn’t side with him. Hm…
He was persecuting christ followerers.I now realize he may have started out hot but he’s lukewarm sold out…..deceptive on purpose.possible a wolf.he knows what he’s saying and why. Sad to see.gotta pray the man’s soul.he is definitely not for righteousness..cuss words aside….its was the way he tore down believers who believe in righteousness and the human reasoning he was using..disturbing yet not surpising. Lay up is an and we some song but there’s weight of glory in his music.check out Sevin. Listen to him preach.hes sold out for Jesus and holy living
Jesus speaks on it in Matthew 5:22.
Christ said Raca = F@ck! in our language… he said calling someone a FOOL is worse than that
” But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.”
(Matt 5:22 KJV)
Umm . . . no. Raca was not an expletive; it was just a generic insult, like calling someone “idiot”. Calling someone a “fool” was indicative of hatred, therefore endangering somebody.
Yo I told yall it was coming. The Love dont hate by speaking movement John 3:16 . Then its okay to get tatoos even though God said dont mark your bodies ( 116 tatted on my wrist). Now can curse if we mean it in a good way? Thats ike saying an I strip if i only ake off my shirt if im doing it to pay for school. Or can we shack up if we live in two seperate rooms until e get married. Is it really okay to be grey a.k.a luke warm Rev 3:16 . When God starts spittin verses (bible) we see he truth. BTW raca (ˈrɑːkə) adj (Bible) a biblical word meaning ‘worthless’ or ’empty’ [from Aramaic]. ROAR !!!
I think the real issue is the music made available via mainstream outlets. There are tons of options like Andy Mineo, Yung Saintz, and Bizzle that rap without profanity.Besides, like Kirk Franklin said in one of his recent interviews, “Christian Rap is too safe right now”. They will be competing with a lot of mainstream negative messages the least that could be done is have a modern sound to compete.
Christian rap can (and should) have a modern sound, but when compromising the Christian character, no one wins 🙁
My people perish for lack of knowledge…
…
Matthew 12:36 “But I tell you that for every careless word that men shall speak
they will be held accountable on the day of Judgement”
“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is
good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it
will give grace to those who hear.” – Eph 4:29
“5Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality,
impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
6For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon
the sons of disobedience, 7and in them you also once walked, when you
were living in them. 8But now you also, put them all aside: anger,
wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. 9Do not lie
to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil
practices, 10and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true
knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— 11a
renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew,
circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman,
but Christ is all, and in all.” Col 3:5-11
“Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity Than he who is perverse in speech and is a fool.” – Ecc 2:15
“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any
kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s
holy people. 4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse
joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5For of this
you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an
idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.a 6Let
no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s
wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7Therefore do not be partners
with them.” – Eph 5:3-7
But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.” – Col 3:8
“9Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of
God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the
covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the
kingdom of God. 11Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you
were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus
Christ and in the Spirit of our God.” – 1 Cor 6:9-11
“1But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2For men
will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers,
disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3unloving, irreconcilable,
malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,
4treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers
of God, 5holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its
power; Avoid such men as these.” – 2 tim 3:1-5
Colossians 3:8 – But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Ephesians 4:29 – Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that
which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto
the hearers.
James 3:10 – Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
Ephesians 5:4 – Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
“5Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.
Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6The
tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It
corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire,
and is itself set on fire by hell.
7All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been
tamed by mankind, 8but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a
restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings,
who have been made in God’s likeness. 10Out of the same mouth come
praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11Can
both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12My brothers
and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs?
Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.” James 3:5-12
2 Timothy 2:16 – But shun profane [and] vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
Proverbs 21:23 – Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
James 3:11-13 – Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet [water] and bitter? (Read More…)
Psalms 19:14 – Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be
acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
Matthew 5:37 – But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
1 Corinthians 10:13 – There hath no temptation taken you but such as is
common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be
tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a
way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].
Romans 12:21 – Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Luke 6:45 – A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth
that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his
heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the
heart his mouth speaketh.
Colossians 4:6 – Let your speech [be] always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
James 4:7 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
1 Timothy 4:12 – Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of
the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in
faith, in purity
i believe if you feed on the word and you are full of the spirit you have an itch when you use profane words. thats your conscience telling you something is wrong. I don’t see anything wrong with Andy asking the question but where is he looking to for answers. I hope it will be the word and not philosophies of men. grace and peace ##Unashamed
Why am I not surprised?
Also, why do I not care? The work of the gospel will proceed even if some people want to muddy the waters just because they can.
Everything is lawful for me, but not everything is expedient. See that little piece at the end? Just as important, buddy.
Was The Lord cursing in Mal. 2 v 3. ? “Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it. No I believe not!!! and The Apostle Paul was not cursing when he used the Word Dung. It is the heart of the matter. Why are we trying to find ways to justify things that grieve The Holy Spirit, Can’t we think about His view and how He may feel. How Jesus feels, how The Father Feels. Ephesian 4 v 29-32 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Jesus Saves!
You are being baited in by Satan into the world. You obviously want the worlds acceptance and we all do but the flesh must be put to death daily. Pray for him and Lacrea. You dont want to glorify what is evil, you want to repent and confess it as sin. “Ye that love the Lord HATE evil.” (not people, EVIL)
You aren’t understanding what he means. He isn’t saying cursing is okay. He isn’t supporting it. He is making you think about connotation rather than literal meaning. He doesn’t have to be as aggressive, but think about what he means before making assumptions.
His approach can be a stumbling block or confusion to many.God is not the author of confusion. Analyzing and thinking is great..but He is not a man who believes in righteousness. Those who are set apart….truly…not Hollywood “christian” musicians as we like to think .some r but few …don’t even want the appearance of evil. Being grey..”journeying”..not being in a christ centered bubble..will make a soul greatly deceived by false doctrines and send a soul to hell.Yahweh help us!
The word of God, which sits in judgment over all cultures, including your culture, Mr. Mineo, not only obligates the Christian “to walk just as Jesus walked” (1 John 2:6) but also commands the Christian to “pursue . . . holiness, for without it no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).
A Christian whose normal manner of speech includes the use of the f-word? How does such speech imitate God in any way? (Ephesians 5:1ff.) How is it striving to comply with the imperative of holiness? How is the use of such language fulfilling the divine obligation to conduct one’s life as Jesus conducted His? Grace is never an excuse to think, speak, or behave in an un-Christlike manner.
Would you dare use the f-word in the presence of the one true living and infinitely holy God? Then why the audacity to use such language in the presence or hearing of His people in whom the Holy Spirit dwells?
You have a platform, Mr. Mineo. If you’re going to use the apostle Paul wrongly in order to argue for profanity in some contexts, then use the apostle rightly by choosing not to use profanity at all so as not to cause another Christian to stumble! (Romans 14; 1 Corinthians 8)
Apply the principle from the previous two texts, Mr. Mineo: If you think you’re a stronger Christian than others and have the freedom to use words that are commonly known as swearwords, know that if the exercising of your supposed freedom trips up even one of your Christian fans, then you, Mr. Mineo, have just sinned against Christ.
Surely you love your weaker brothers and sisters, Mr. Mineo. Proactively seek to say and do nothing that could cause them to sin.
As far as the apostle Paul “swearing” in Philippians 3:8, he’s telling the Philippian Christians that, in comparison with knowing the Lord Jesus Christ personally, Paul’s once treasured stuff (vv. 5–6) isn’t worth σκύβαλον, a strong comparison inspired by the Holy Spirit. The etymology of σκύβαλον, however, is uncertain (see the lexicons and critical commentaries). Paul’s intended meaning of it in Philippians 3:8 is either “refuse” (i.e., stuff rejected as useless and fit only to be thrown away) or “dung,” perhaps even “crap.” Whatever the case, σκύβαλον occurs in the New Testament once, and Paul didn’t use it in Philippians frivolously or as an expletive.
Please recant your argument, Mr. Mineo, and strive for holiness in all aspects of your life, speech, and music, being always mindful of how your words and deeds may affect others.
This is a prime example of Christians blending in with the world. The world is trying to teach our children that there is a gray area. There is NO gray area with God. The bible calls it a sin then it’s a sin. (whatever it is…cursing, sexual immoralities, lying, cheating). In Jeremiah 17:9:”The heart is deceitful above ALL things and beyond cure. WHo can understand it?” Look bro, I’m not trying to judge you or anyone for that matter, but this scripture should be looked at first in this example. In today’s society we’ve allowed our hearts, what WE feel is right or what WE feel is wrong and look where it’s gotten us today. Legal gay marriages? What next? Legal murder? The list goes on and on, but everything starts with the heart. Is this the heart of God living in me or the heart of a fleshly understanding that is trying to interpret God’s word for the benefit of something other than it’s true intention? It is never acceptable to take God’s word out of context or ever twist scripture and as Christians we know that, but we don’t set the example most times because we’re trying not to offend anyone. My prayers are with every Christian reading this because this response isn’t guided by my spirit, it is guided by Him that lives in me and we must learn to stand up and against sin NOT the people in sin and we must do it in LOVE instead of ridicule, mockery or a tainted heart. Iron sharpens iron, bro so this isn’t a judgement post. My prayers are for all true followers of God’s word and the gospel.
Amen I could tell Holy Spirit rose up in u.keep speaking for the Father.make sure u r in a good church..under a leader u trust and can confide in and learn from. Speaking gifts go hard!God has you in his hands!
“What’s wrong with profanity?” It doesn’t honor God, how can we call ourselves Christian and be so ignorant of profanity. Words can hurt just as much as actions, I am a high schooler and everyday I see profanity used by everyone at school (even teachers!), just because it may be alright in secular ethics it is not right according to God. We as Christians are called to hold ourselves to a higher standard.
He just lost me as a fan too many so called Christian artist are trying to blend in with the culture. Religion change culture, culture doesn’t change religion. an to the point about the meaning of a word Yell sharp to a little kid vs the word Sh$%t and see what kind of reaction you get. God gives us the Spirit of right and wrong and your spirit being know when you are doing wrong so when you hear a swear word your spirit automatically knows something is not right about that word . there is your answer Mr. Mineo
Kowledge puffs up but Love builds up. All I know is without reading one sentence of the bible, after I got filled with the Holy Spirit and was saved, I stopped cussing and using foul language in my day by day expression without knowing one word of the bible. I stopped wanting to listen to some of my favorite rap music because it didn’t build me up anymore, it actually tore me down. And to be honest I am all Grace for sure, but its black or white there is no grey lines either your with Jesus or your not In the words of Corey Red. And yes I know he has used foul language in his music too. lol…
Amen! The Holy Spirit is whom translates the Scripture for us. Without Him they have the potential to be twisted and used for our own gain.
So whats wrong with PORN? Is it ok for the context you use it in? If Im married or with my girl and were using it to increase our sexual fantasies or intimacy is it still cool? Now remember it’s for the context we use it in. ………REALLY?! I saw where he stated that some should guard what their children listen to but when they get older they should make their own decision.LOL Why go through the trouble if you believe cussing is ok. Now if you cuss (on a day to day)and your a believer in Christ I’m not going to say your not a Christian , I just think thats a area God has to work with you on. Now do I want to hear it in music not really. Do I want to hear it in Christian or shall I say Gospel music ? Nope
Did it ever occur to anyone that the specific words we consider to be profanity were not invented until far later than the Bible? Man created the words. It’s all cultural influence. Also, if you’re not confident enough in your faith to ask or answer questions you are probably just going along with what you’ve been told, which is problem. Not to say it means a person isn’t saved. But it doesn’t leave much room for growth.
My pastor has a story that I have heard many times…funny how I get something different from it each time – but he really has a great story. I’ll shorten it: He was not raised Christian, but as a child would go on his own to church. He later joined the Marines, and when they were told that they may be leaving port to actively engage in the war, he gave his life to Christ, afraid he may not come home. By a miracle they were not sent out to engage, and the war ended shortly thereafter. He met a woman that became his wife; he was still quite young, but he wanted more with his life, as did she with hers. They began attending church, and memorizing verses and witnessing to others. When Pastor witnessed, he spoke to them the way he was accustomed to: full of cuss words. He didn’t even know that wasn’t “normal” Christian talk. One day his Pastor went with him, while he was witnessing…and pulled him aside and, “You know, Kenny, you might get a better response if you weren’t cursing.” He said it without censorship, without judgement, and it was such a surprise to my Pastor – he hadn’t even thought about it! SO…my take on this whole issue is that: we shouldn’t judge those who do curse, we don’t know where they are in their faith. However as Christians, once we have learned that this is also sinning, we should not curse – especially if we are witnessing to others – and that is what Christian artists do with their music – witness. Maybe worship is the intention, but witnessing is what comes of it. Your words are powerful – especially to the younger crowd. If they, or anyone that isn’t yet a believer, hear cursing in one of your (or any Christian artist’s) songs/raps, they may think that maybe your relationship with JC isn’t real, or they may feel empowered to use those same cuss words… This not a subject to be judged, yet to think & pray about with discernment. I won’t lie, I have definitely done my fair share of cussing, and I can say – I don’t really like the feeling I get when I do. I LOVE having music that I truly ENJOY that I know is clean and full of truth…stuff I KNOW I can bump in my car or my house – no matter how many of my friends’ kids are around, and feel positive it’s not gonna be offensive – and praying it is enlightening. Love Love Love your music Andy. I was BLESSED with having the opportunity to go to the Lecrae Anomaly Tour in Portland a couple of years back – I couldn’t believe my blessing – TWO of my most favorite artists in ONE concert. Yeah!!!
Really, how is Andy NOT wrong? The word itself is NOT bad, it’s the INTENTION behind it. Seriously? How is this a debate, that is obvious. The “a-word” for “donkey” is not a bad word, it’s only bad when used in a crude context. Same with the “f-word”, it’s not a bad word, only when used in a crude context (and yes, there actually is a legitimate use for that word). Andy is completely right.
Where in the bible does it state which words are profanity and which are not?? Any word can have a negative meaning depending how you use it. i.e. Tone, context, out of jealousy or hate.
Andy Mineo is such an idiot
